Dickson receives Obi, urges NDC members to stop name-calling ahead 2027

Senator Seriake Dickson has held talks with the presidential candidate of the Nigeria Democratic Congress (NDC), Mr. Peter Obi, amid recent tensions arising from remarks he made about criticisms from some of Obi’s supporters.

In a statement released on Thursday, Dickson revealed that Obi, accompanied by several senior figures within the party, paid him a visit for a private meeting that lasted nearly three hours.

The meeting followed concerns earlier raised by the Bayelsa West lawmaker over what he described as hostile reactions from certain Obi supporters despite their common political aspirations.

According to Dickson, discussions during the meeting centered on developments within the party and issues that had recently attracted attention among members and stakeholders.

“I received my brother, colleague, and partner in the New Nigerian Project, His Excellency Mr. Peter Gregory Obi, CON, our presidential candidate, who, alongside respected leaders of our party, attended a private meeting with me that lasted close to three hours,” he stated.

The former governor of Bayelsa State noted that all matters of concern were openly discussed and successfully resolved.

“During the meeting, we reviewed the affairs of the party and addressed some recent concerns that had generated discussions across different quarters. We were able to resolve all the issues in a cordial manner,” he said.

Dickson emphasized that both he and Obi remain committed to the larger goal of building a stronger party and preparing it for future electoral victories.

He explained that they have consistently shared a common vision of securing electoral success for the party and providing Nigerians with a viable alternative to the ruling party, the All Progressives Congress (APC).

“We have always agreed on the broader objective, which is ensuring victory for our party’s candidates and offering Nigerians an alternative to the current APC administration,” he said.

Although he acknowledged that differences of opinion had surfaced, Dickson noted that party leaders had reached an understanding on how such matters would be managed moving forward.

He also urged party members to put aside disagreements and personal attacks in the interest of the party’s collective ambition.

“I want to once again appeal to all members of our party to refrain from unnecessary disputes and name-calling and instead concentrate on our common purpose,” he stated.

Dickson further assured members that engagements between Obi, himself, and other key stakeholders would continue to promote unity, address emerging concerns, and strengthen internal cohesion.

According to him, the party leadership remains dedicated to its shared objective of rebuilding Nigeria and creating a better future for all citizens.
