Osun Guber: Ex-House of Rep candidate mobilises support for Adeleke’s re-election

By Timothy Agbor

A former House of Representatives candidate of the Labour Party for Ife Federal Constituency in the 2023 general elections, Mr. Olamide Awosunle, has rallied more than 1,000 members of the Village People Movement to openly endorse the second-term bid of Osun State Governor, Ademola Adeleke.

The endorsement rally, which took place at Enuwa Square in Ile-Ife, drew participants from different segments of society, including youths, women, students, civil servants, artisans, retirees, and other stakeholders from communities across the Ife Federal Constituency.

The gathering provided an opportunity for members of the socio-political movement to formally declare their support for Governor Adeleke’s re-election, citing what they described as notable achievements in infrastructure, education, healthcare, workers’ welfare, and grassroots development since he assumed office.

Addressing the crowd, Awosunle, who serves as the Coordinator of the Village People Movement, said members from Ife East, Ife Central, Ife North, and Ife South Local Government Areas had collectively resolved to back the governor’s re-election campaign.

He explained that their decision was based on the governor’s dedication to good governance, fair distribution of developmental projects, timely payment of salaries and pensions, and efforts aimed at enhancing the welfare of residents across Osun State.

According to Awosunle, Governor Adeleke has demonstrated effective leadership and deserves another term to build on the successes already recorded by his administration.

“After a careful assessment of Governor Ademola Adeleke’s performance, we are convinced that he has earned the opportunity to continue the work he has started. Members of our movement across the four local government areas of Ife Federal Constituency are united in their support for his re-election,” he stated.

He further disclosed that the movement would intensify grassroots mobilisation and voter sensitisation programmes to ensure widespread support for the governor during the forthcoming governorship election.

Also speaking at the event, a leading member of the movement, Dr. Obisakin Busayo, praised Governor Adeleke for providing inclusive and people-centred leadership.

She noted that the administration has demonstrated commitment through various developmental initiatives across the state and urged residents to continue supporting the governor’s programmes and policies.

Dr. Busayo also encouraged young people and community leaders to remain actively engaged in democratic processes and to support leaders who have shown genuine dedication to public service and the welfare of citizens.

In her remarks, Yeyeluwa Modupeola Adeleke, elder sister of Governor Adeleke and special guest at the event, expressed gratitude to members of the Village People Movement for their support and confidence in the governor’s leadership.

She applauded the group’s grassroots efforts and assured attendees that Governor Adeleke would remain committed to the development and welfare of the people of Osun State.

She reaffirmed the governor’s determination to deliver more democratic dividends through improved infrastructure, youth and women empowerment programmes, and expanded opportunities for residents across the state.

The event also featured goodwill messages from community leaders, youth representatives, women associations, and political stakeholders, all of whom reiterated their support for Governor Adeleke’s second-term ambition.

Among those in attendance were officials of the Osun State Government, leaders of the Accord Party, traditional and community leaders, political associates, and other distinguished personalities from within and beyond Ifeland.
