Independence, democracy won — now prosperity must follow – Tinubu

President Bola Tinubu has urged Nigerians to remain united and work together in the continuous effort to build a stronger nation, emphasizing that while previous generations fought for independence and democracy, the responsibility of the present generation is to achieve lasting prosperity.

Speaking on the importance of June 12 in Nigeria’s democratic history, the President reflected on the contributions and sacrifices of those who came before, noting that the country’s founding fathers secured political independence, while the heroes of the June 12 struggle played a crucial role in restoring democratic governance.

According to him, the current generation must dedicate itself to advancing national development and should reject division, pessimism, and hopelessness, choosing instead the path of unity, optimism, and collective progress.

“Our founding fathers won independence, and the June 12 generation defended democracy. It is now our duty to secure prosperity for all Nigerians,” he said.

Tinubu emphasized the need to build a nation bound by a shared vision and strengthened by its diversity, where justice prevails, freedom is safeguarded, and opportunities are available to every citizen.

He also called for a united effort in creating a more inclusive and prosperous society, stressing that Nigeria’s future growth and success depend on the willingness of its people to work together toward common goals.
