Vice President Kashim Shettima has stated that the policies and programmes introduced by President Bola Tinubu are largely youth-oriented, emphasizing that the President employs innovative and contemporary solutions to address the challenges of the modern era.
He noted that the Tinubu administration remains committed to supporting young Nigerians, whom it regards as the backbone of the nation and a critical force for growth, development, and transformation.
Shettima made the remarks on Thursday while receiving members of the City Boy Movement during a courtesy visit to the Presidential Villa in Abuja.
The Vice President expressed confidence in President Tinubu’s reform agenda, describing him as a courageous leader willing to make difficult decisions for the long-term benefit of the country.
Referring to the President, Shettima said, “Our renowned City Boy, President Bola Ahmed Tinubu, is a visionary leader with progressive ideals who applies modern solutions to the challenges of the twenty-first century.”
He stressed that effective governance demands courage, patience, and a commitment to policies that may not yield immediate praise but are necessary for sustainable progress.
According to him, Nigeria’s economic revival depends not only on government initiatives but also on citizens who believe in and support reforms, especially during challenging periods.
He further argued that democracy thrives through active citizen participation and cannot be sustained solely through criticism and grievances.
Addressing the delegation led by Seyi Tinubu, the Vice President stated that public confidence in government is strengthened when citizens willingly support policies and institutions they believe can improve national development.
“There is no stronger endorsement of a government than citizens voluntarily standing behind its success,” he said.
Shettima observed that such support carries even greater significance when it comes from young Nigerians who choose constructive engagement over pessimism and remain committed to the country’s future.
He commended the City Boy Movement for its efforts in mobilizing Nigerians and encouraging wider participation in governance, noting that democratic institutions require citizens who can explain government policies, organize support, and sustain public trust.
“We are proud of the momentum you have created in encouraging Nigerians to support their government, uphold the nation’s promise, and defend the difficult but necessary decisions aimed at reversing years of decline,” he stated.
The Vice President also praised Seyi Tinubu for maintaining strong engagement with youths and fostering support networks across communities nationwide.
He maintained that true leadership involves governing both supporters and critics without prejudice or resentment.
“Politics is about leading both those who admire you and those who oppose you. Genuine leadership begins when you accept that responsibility without bitterness,” he said.
Shettima reaffirmed the administration’s commitment to safeguarding democratic freedoms and ensuring an atmosphere where citizens are free to express both support and opposition.
“This is the democracy we are determined to protect—a society where supporters and critics alike enjoy freedom, and where even opposing voices are respected and protected,” he added.
He further urged members of the City Boy Movement to remain disciplined and united, emphasizing that strong institutions are built on trust, consultation, and a shared vision.
“Movements flourish through discipline, survive through trust, mature through consultation, and endure through loyalty to a common purpose greater than personal ambitions,” he said.
Earlier, the Director-General of the City Boy Movement, Hon. Francis Shoga, praised the Tinubu administration for achievements in infrastructure and economic development, asserting that its reform programmes are producing positive outcomes.
He pledged that members of the movement would intensify efforts across the country to mobilize support for President Tinubu’s re-election bid in 2027.
Shoga explained that the movement was established to promote the administration’s programmes, highlight its accomplishments, and build support for the President ahead of the next presidential election.
He also lauded Vice President Shettima for his leadership qualities and contributions to national development through the administration’s reform agenda.
“It is a privilege to recognize dedication, leadership, loyalty, and commitment to national progress. History remembers those who not only held office but also empowered citizens, strengthened institutions, and inspired hope among the people,” he said.
Also speaking, the Minister of Youth Development, Hon. Ayodele Olawande, commended the Vice President for his consistent support and dedication to the welfare of young Nigerians.
“Your Excellency, we appreciate this opportunity to meet with you today. It is a great honour, and we do not take it for granted. We consider this a home because of your unwavering support for young people,” the minister stated.
Olawande disclosed that the City Boy Movement currently has representatives in all states of the federation and that its national headquarters in Abuja will soon be officially inaugurated.
