What Happened To Tinubu’s Plateau CCTV Promise?’ PDP Gov Candidate Demands Accountability
The Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) governorship candidate in Plateau State, Kefas Ropshik, has questioned the status of President Bola Tinubu’s directive to deploy security surveillance cameras across the state, calling on the Federal Government to account for promises made to the people.
Speaking on Channels Television’s Sunrise Daily on Wednesday, Ropshik recalled that President Tinubu announced the initiative during his visit to Plateau State following the deadly attacks in April.
If you remember, the last time the president was in Plateau, he landed at the airport and never got into town. But he made some promises for the people of Plateau State, and he spoke to the Minister of Communication then, and gave him a directive to have cameras around Plateau State and its environs.
“Now the question is what has happened since then? We believe strongly that the government should be responsible and accountable for any promises made to the people,” Ropshik said.
During his visit to Jos in April, President Tinubu directed the deployment of 5,000 security cameras across Plateau State following attacks in the Angwan Rukuba area that claimed more than 27 lives.
The Minister of Communications, Innovation and Digital Economy, Bosun Tijani, had said the surveillance project would provide law enforcement agencies with technology to track criminal activities and strengthen security in the state.
Ropshik said the government owed residents an update on the implementation of the directive, stressing that leaders should be accountable for commitments made to the public.
The PDP governorship candidate also argued that effective leadership must be rooted in compassion and a commitment to the welfare of the people.
“For me, governance and living itself has to do with humanity in someone, because that is the only way you can get it right. If you have humanity in you, you will not think of embezzling government funds. If you have humanity in you, you will think of the people before anything,” he said.
