Mexico kick off World Cup opening match against South Africa
Co-host nation Mexico began their 2026 World Cup campaign on Thursday with an opening match against South Africa at the iconic Estadio Azteca in Mexico City.
Ahead of the match, more than 80,000 spectators were treated to a vibrant opening ceremony featuring a performance by Colombian music star Shakira alongside several other entertainers.
