The House of Representatives on Thursday concluded the process of filling its minority leadership positions, following the unanimous approval of three lawmakers nominated to occupy key vacant offices within the opposition caucus.
The announcement was made during plenary, where minority members of the 10th House presented and adopted a consensus list for the offices of Minority Leader, Deputy Minority Leader, and Minority Whip.
Under the arrangement, Rep. Frederick Agbedi emerged as the new Minority Leader, while Rep. Abdulsamad Dasuki was selected as Deputy Minority Leader. Rep. Mansur Soro was endorsed as the Minority Whip.
Speaker of the House, Hon. Tajudeen Abbas, who presided over the session, formally confirmed the nominations and declared the positions duly occupied.
Abbas stated that the appointments marked the completion of the House’s principal leadership structure and expressed optimism that the newly appointed officers would contribute significantly to the legislative responsibilities of the 10th National Assembly.
“With this development, the composition of principal officers is now complete,” the Speaker said.
He congratulated the lawmakers on their appointments and assured them of the cooperation and support of the House leadership in carrying out their responsibilities.
“On behalf of the entire House, I congratulate the three members and wish them success in their new assignments. They can count on the full support of the House leadership as we work together to achieve the legislative goals and aspirations of this important 10th Assembly,” Abbas added.
The emergence of the new minority leaders followed a series of consultations among opposition parties aimed at filling the vacant offices and ensuring effective representation of the minority bloc within the House leadership.
With the appointments now confirmed, both the majority and minority caucuses have fully constituted their leadership teams, a move expected to enhance legislative collaboration, coordination, and oversight functions within the chamber.
