16 Persons, Including Site Engineer, Trapped in Port Harcourt Building Collapse

No fewer than 16 people, including a site engineer, were trapped on Wednesday after a five-storey building under construction collapsed in Port Harcourt, Rivers State.

The incident occurred around 9 a.m., according to eyewitnesses, sending residents and workers in the area into panic.

Sources at the scene disclosed that several construction workers, alongside the site engineer, were inside the building when the structure suddenly gave way, leaving them buried beneath the rubble.

Emergency rescue teams, security personnel and residents swiftly mobilised to the scene, working tirelessly to rescue those trapped under the debris.

As of the time of filing this report, the cause of the collapse had not been determined, while the exact number of casualties and survivors remained unknown.

Witnesses described the aftermath as chaotic, with worried family members, sympathisers and other onlookers crowding the area as rescue operations continued.

Authorities had yet to issue an official statement on the incident, while more details are expected as emergency responders continue search and rescue efforts.
