JOS — The Inspector-General of Police, **Olatunji Disu**, has directed the deployment of the Assistant Inspector-General of Police in charge of Zone 4 Headquarters, Makurdi, **Dankombo Morris**, to Plateau State in response to the recent attack on Kawel community in Mushere District of Bokkos Local Government Area.

The deployment is aimed at evaluating the security situation, restoring peace, and preventing further violence in the affected area.

In addition, the IGP approved the deployment of more police personnel and operational resources, including operatives of the Police Mobile Force and other tactical units, to reinforce security across the impacted communities.

During a visit to Bokkos on Tuesday, AIG Morris, accompanied by senior officers of the Plateau State Police Command, met with local government authorities, traditional leaders, and key stakeholders to discuss the security challenges facing the area.

The Chairman of Bokkos Local Government Area, Amalau Samuel Amalau, praised the Inspector-General for his prompt response, describing the attack as a senseless and tragic act of violence.

He revealed that the victims had already been laid to rest and appealed for a sustained security presence to prevent future attacks.

“We are grateful for the swift intervention of the Inspector-General of Police and urge the continued deployment of security personnel and operational assets to protect lives and property in our communities,” Amalau said.

Also speaking, the President of the Women in Politics Initiative, Plateau State chapter, Mrs. Hajara Yunana, lamented the devastating impact of the attack on women and families. She called on the police to back their assurances with decisive action and advocated the use of modern policing technologies to improve security in vulnerable communities.

“This incident has had a profound effect on women and families. We appeal to security agencies to ensure that their commitments are reflected in concrete actions on the ground,” she stated.

Yunana further urged residents to remain peaceful and continue providing useful information to security agencies to aid ongoing operations.

Addressing stakeholders, AIG Morris conveyed the condolences of the Inspector-General to the Plateau State Government, the people of Bokkos, and particularly residents of Kawel community.

He strongly condemned the attack, describing it as inhumane and unacceptable, and assured residents that efforts were underway to track down and prosecute those responsible.

According to a statement issued by the spokesperson of the Plateau State Police Command, SP Alfred Alabo, the additional deployment of personnel and tactical assets is intended to boost security, restore public confidence, and prevent a recurrence of such incidents.

“Those responsible for this brutal attack will be identified, arrested, and made to face the law. The deployment is designed to enhance security and protect vulnerable communities,” Morris said.

He also appealed to community leaders, youth groups, and residents to cooperate with security agencies by providing timely and credible intelligence.

The AIG reassured residents that the security situation was under control and encouraged them to continue their normal activities while remaining vigilant.

“We call on members of the public to remain calm, law-abiding, and security-conscious as efforts continue to secure lasting peace in the area,” he added.
