The African Democratic Congress (ADC) in Rivers State has initiated efforts to reunite members following internal disagreements that arose after its recent primary elections.
The disputes, which reportedly resulted in factional divisions and the emergence of two governorship candidates within the party, prompted the establishment of a Peace and Reconciliation Committee. The committee was inaugurated on Wednesday in Port Harcourt with the mandate of fostering unity, inclusiveness, and stronger internal cohesion ahead of the 2027 general elections.
In addition to resolving conflicts, the committee is expected to mobilize collective support for the party’s electoral ambitions.
Speaking at the inauguration, the Rivers State Chairman of the ADC, Chukwudi Dimkpa, explained that the committee was set up to ensure that all aspirants who participated in the primaries, along with their supporters, are fully accommodated within the party’s political framework.
Represented by the State Secretary, Sam Sam Etetegwung, Dimkpa stated that the committee would engage aggrieved aspirants, address concerns raised during the primaries, and facilitate reconciliation among party stakeholders. He noted that the body would provide avenues for dialogue to resolve misunderstandings and ensure disputes are settled peacefully.
According to him, the objective is to strengthen unity within the party and secure the commitment of members toward supporting ADC candidates in the 2027 elections.
Dimkpa further urged the committee to develop a sustainable framework for engagement and inclusiveness, emphasizing the importance of presenting a united front as the party prepares for the general elections.
Responding on behalf of the committee, its chairman, Hon. Emma Chinda, assured the party leadership that members would carry out their responsibilities diligently and work toward achieving meaningful results.
