The Inspector-General of Police, Olatunji Disu, has directed the Katsina State Police Command to bolster security measures around schools across the state.
The directive was conveyed by the Deputy Inspector-General of Police in charge of the Department of Finance and Administration, Sulaiman Abdul, during a two-day operational visit to Katsina. As part of the tour, Abdul assessed security arrangements at selected educational institutions and instructed the command to intensify efforts to protect schools through coordinated patrol operations.
According to him, the police command has been mandated to strengthen intelligence gathering, increase patrol activities, and maintain a strong security presence around schools to deter criminal activities and ensure a safe atmosphere for learning.
“The command is directed to intensify patrols, improve intelligence gathering, and sustain high police visibility around educational institutions to prevent violent crimes and provide a secure environment for teaching and learning,” he stated.
During the inspection tour, the DIG visited the Police Children School and the Government Girls Technical and Commercial College in Charanchi Local Government Area. He examined existing security infrastructure, including perimeter fencing, access control systems, security posts, and the deployment of police personnel.
Abdul also met separately with the management teams of the schools to gain firsthand insight into their security concerns and challenges.
He advised school authorities to strictly enforce access control procedures and promptly report any suspicious activities within and around their premises to relevant security agencies.
