Wife of the Anambra State Governor, Mrs Nonye Soludo, has reiterated the commitment of the state government to safeguarding the rights, welfare and dignity of elderly residents across the state.
Speaking in commemoration of World Elder Abuse Awareness Day, Mrs Soludo emphasized that senior citizens remain invaluable members of society whose contributions, wisdom and cultural heritage deserve recognition and protection.
She noted that older persons should be allowed to live in dignity, enjoying adequate care, respect and security without being subjected to neglect, abuse, discrimination or exploitation.
According to her, every elderly individual deserves an environment that promotes safety, comfort and inclusion throughout their later years.
Mrs Soludo urged families, community leaders and institutions to work together in fostering a society where older people feel appreciated, listened to and adequately protected.
She further stated that the manner in which society treats its elderly population serves as a measure of its values and compassion, calling for greater commitment to kindness, support and inclusiveness.
She described the occasion as an opportunity for reflection and renewed action towards improving the wellbeing of senior citizens and ensuring they enjoy a higher quality of life.
Mrs Soludo also appealed to stakeholders to sustain efforts aimed at protecting the rights of the elderly and promoting their dignity at all times.
