There is a growing fuel shortage in Lagos and other parts of the country due to private depot owners raising the ex-depot price of petrol from N630 to N720 per litre. This has led to fuel scarcity in Abuja and surrounding states, with some filling stations selling PMS for as high as N900/litre.
Many filling stations in Lagos, Ogun, and other states have run out of stock as they are unwilling to purchase the expensive fuel from private depots. The National Vice President of the Independent Petroleum Marketers Association of Nigeria, Hammed Fashola, expressed concern over the situation, stating that the Nigerian National Petroleum Company Limited should provide an explanation to the public.
He also highlighted the challenges faced by independent marketers who are unable to afford the high-priced fuel being sold by private depots, leading to the shutdown of many stations..
