Israel has reported that it conducted an airstrike in southern Gaza targeting Hamas' top military official,
Mohammed Deif.
Local authorities have confirmed that at least 71 Palestinians were killed in a series of strikes
in the vicinity.
Deif, the leader of Hamas' Qassam Brigades, was the target of an airstrike on Saturday in Al-Mawasi,
a camp located west of the city of Khan Younis, as per information provided by an Israeli security
official to CNN..
The Israeli military is currently working on confirming whether Deif was indeed killed in the attack.
Additionally, the security official mentioned that Deif was not the only target, as the head of the Khan Younis brigade,
Rafe Salama, was also targeted in the same operation.
The Al-Mawasi area in Gaza has seen at least 71 fatalities
and nearly 300 injuries as a result of Israeli airstrikes, as reported by the Gaza Health Ministry.
The Kuwait and Nasser Hospitals on the ground are currently facing challenges in managing
the large influx of deceased and wounded civilians,
as reported by the ministry.
