The Abia State chapter of the Organised Labour has issued a warning to the state government, stating that if the Memorandum of Understanding reached at the meeting is not implemented by July 28, 2024, they will proceed on an indefinite strike without further notice.
This comes after the union previously threatened to go on strike due to the state government's failure to address issues related to minimum wage and palliative wage award.
The state Governor has met with the organised labour and directed the state Accountant-General to work with the union on their demands. The NLC Chairman has alleged that the state government is not paying the approved minimum wage, while the governor claims that records show otherwise. The union has emphasized the importance of adhering to the agreement reached and warned of the consequences if it is not implemented.
