Mrs Florence Wenegieme, the acting Director-General of FEMD, made the announcement
in a statement on Saturday in Abuja. She mentioned that the building was situated next to Cupid Hotel,
Sultan Dasuki Road, Phase 2, Site 2, Kubwa, in Bwari Area Council of the FCT.
She clarified that the collapsed building had 45 self-contained rooms and was previously
a hotel before being converted for residential purposes. Wenegieme informed that two of the rescued
victims were taken to Kubwa General Hospital for treatment.
Upon notification by passersby and a distress call on the 112 emergency toll-free number at 6.45am,
FEMD promptly mobilized to the scene. She stated that search and rescue
operations are ongoing until all individuals are rescued,
if there are still people trapped in the debris.
Wenegieme mentioned that other agencies present at
the site included the National Emergency Management Agency,
FCT Fire Service, Federal Road Safety Corps,
Nigeria Security and Civil Defense Corps, and the Nigeria Police.
She urged developers to adhere strictly to building
codes and refrain from using
substandard materials to prevent frequent building collapses in the FCT
